Join Our Volunteer Program

Volunteers are an integral part of the Careview hospice team, trained to fill roles that range from direct contact with patients to providing clerical support alongside our administrative and clinical staff. Hospice volunteering can be gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful. Careview Hospice values our volunteers greatly.

Our Hospice volunteers are trained to meet the needs of patients and families. With volunteer services provided on a schedule, yet open to change as dictated by the patient's health and interests. If you are interested in volunteering send us your information and our volunteer coordinator will reach out to identify specific needs and help determine where your skills and interests will be a good fit.

Volunteer Activities

  • Patient Support Program

    Visiting and offering friendship, reading, taking walks, writing letters, interpreting for those who do not speak English, bringing in music, therapeutic visits with pets. Volunteers with necessary certification can also provide massage therapy, offering complementary therapies such as aroma therapy or therapeutic touch.

  • Clerical and Administrative Program

    A volunteer with clerical skills can serve by helping in the office with administrative duties. Fundraising responsibilities can range from preparing mailings or thank-you letters to organizing fundraising events and contacting potential donors.

  • Special skills and interests Program

    Certified notaries, barbers, and beauticians can volunteer their services to patients.

  • Family Support Program

    Volunteers can assist with shopping or light household maintenance, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, exercise, or simply have some time alone. Volunteers can also help care for a family pet.

  • Bereavement Support Program

    Hospice volunteers can work closely with the bereavement staff. Duties may include assisting bereavement facilitator, serving refreshments, or helping with mailings to families.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers are required to be over the age of 18.
  • Prospective volunteers are required to submit to a background check.
  • To ensure volunteers are equipped for the challenge of working with the dying, they are required to complete extensive orientation and training sessions.
  • Volunteers are required to have a valid driver's license, particularly if there is a need for the volunteer to travel to patient homes.
